iTunes Major Milestone

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

iTunes met a major milestone recently when the 10 billionth song was downloaded.  That’s 10,000,000,000th song.

Actually, this was the 10 billionth song sold, and apparently does not include all their free downloads.  So, at a price of 99 cents per song, that’s also about 10 billion dollars iTunes has raked in over the years.

Did they share the wealth with the lucky purchaser?  They sure did!  Louie Sulcer is the presumably very happy recipient of a $10,000 iTunes gift card after he downloaded the lucky song.

Which song won him such a prize, you ask?  It was “Guess Things Happen that Way” by Johnny Cash.  Huh… I guess things DO happen that way sometimes.

On another note, iTunes notes that the single most downloaded track belongs to the Black Eyed Peas.  “I Gotta Feeling” is the top downloaded song, but the Black Eyed Peas also have the third most frequently purchased song, which is “Boom Boom Pow.”

By the way, the second most popular song downloaded is “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga.

Congratulations to Louie.  Sure hope you have lots more songs you want to download, Louie! <smile>
