Phoning in Your Blog Posts

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Blogs are not a new idea nowadays.  Nearly everyone has one, but the ways to connect and post to one’s blog has been growing over the years.  Now you can post to your blog from nearly any mobile device.  Your Android or iPhone, your iPad or even just your laptop connected wirelessly at your local coffee shop are becoming more and more common ways to connect to your blog and start typing away.

And even with all of the available ways to connect, Automattic founder Matt Mullenweg has announced a new, yet old, technology that lets you phone in your blog posts!  This is not completely new, as LiveJournal had the capabilities of doing that on its platform, but it seems nearly new because of so many ways one can connect to one’s blog from mobile devices.

So if you are out and about, without a connection to the internet or a mobile phone, but are dying to make a blog post about the delish new sushi place downtown, then pull out some quarters, find a pay phone, and dial into your blog!

Google Voice Now Open to All in the U.S.

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Google Voice is now open to all who reside in the U.S., while before Google Voice was by invitation-only and mostly only college students were invited to use it.  Google had purchased Grand Central voice technology in 2009 and transferred the technology and made it into Google Voice.

Another free service in the plethora of great services that Google offers to its users.  Small businesses, start-ups, college students will now be able to use this technology freely and take phone calls to the next level.

Google Voice is a web technology that combines regular phone service with web technology.  It allows a voice mail to be transcribed and sent right to a user’s inbox, just like an email.  And just like an email, the transcribed voice mail can be shared, starred, deleted, and saved.  Each user is given a phone number that can be forwarded to their home, office, or mobile phone.

It is estimated that about a million users have already downloaded the Google Voice client, and Google expects many more new users over the next few weeks.

Google & Small Businesses

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Google has long been pursuing small businesses and reaching out for ways to help small businesses get online and create an online presence.  According to this article, it appears that Google is now partnering with the Small Business Administration in creating tools to help small businesses drum up more business by utilizing what Google knows best: the internet.

They are offering videos for small business owners that cover things like: establishing an online presence, engaging with customers, using free online marketing tools, and other items.  While it is great that Google is honing in on helping small businesses build an online presence, I think it may be a little difficult because some small business rely heavily on word-of-mouth or the target customers for a small business may not be online savvy — so a lot of time and investment may eventually be wasted.

But you got to love Google for reaching out to the small businesses who do see potential in creating an online presence.  Of course, it could not hurt if every business did have a very basic website, even a website without the bells and whistles that Google may be trying to promote.  I know it drives me crazy when a little shop I know exists but can’t remember where does not have a website or any type of web presence to help potential customers find them.

So the courtship between Google and Small Businesses continues, a courtship that I hope will end in a love story that will be profitable for all.

Online Merchant Account

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Technological advancements and latest scientific developments have been influencing each and every aspect of human life. One such technology that has revolutionized the entire human thinking is internet. Today, it is even possible to enjoy shopping without moving an inch from the home or visiting expensive malls. There are several online shopping websites offering a magnitude of products that can be bought using either a credit card or a debit card. In order to facilitate these online transactions, banks provide merchants with a special type of bank account called an online merchant account.  An online merchant account allows one to accept online credit card transactions. The bank, also known as the acquirer or merchant account provider, which provides the merchant account, extends a line of credit to a merchant who wishes to accept payment card transaction of a particular card association brand.

How does an online credit card transaction operate? In order to accept credit card payments online, there are different components that are required by the website. The entire transaction goes through three different layers before the money paid by the customer reaches the merchant. These layers include:

  1. Payment Gateway: A payment gateway is the means to transfer and receive the information from the bank. Every website accepting online payments must have a payment gateway. Every bank operates through a separate payment gateway. All the billing details of the customer including his/her credit card number, type of credit card, expiration date, security code and billing amount are filled and submitted through this payment gateway only.
  2.

  3. Online Merchant Account: This is an understanding with the bank, thereby permitting the merchant to accept credit card transactions from the customers. The bank also provides the merchant with a special bank account called the online merchant account. When the billing information submitted in the payment gateway is transmitted to the merchant provider, the bank verifies the information. The results indicating whether the transaction is accepted or rejected are then transferred back to the merchant and the customer through the payment gateway only. If the transaction is accepted, the money gets deposited into the merchant account within 2-3 days.
  4.

  5. Online Web Portal: This is the first and foremost requisite. One should have a web portal that is registered and must be able to integrate with the service provider.
  6.

Merchant accounts for websites are being offered by several merchant providers. In most cases, these accounts accept every kind of online payment including debit and credit card transactions, wireless money transfer or an electronic transfer of money using Pay Pal. The demand and usage of such accounts has been constantly increasing with the ever expanding online businesses. However, selecting the right kind of merchant service provider is important in several ways. Apart from ensuring a secure transaction gateway, a merchant service provider must provide a fast and efficient payment processing facility that is capable of handling all the major brands of credit or debit cards.  Hence, one should always choose a service provider who is suitable for one’s business requirements.

    OVERVIEW ON INTERNET MARKETING

    Thursday, October 16th, 2008

For business throughout the years, marketing has been quoted to be as important as the product or service itself that they are offering. When international or global business has begun to develop, the more emphasis was put on marketing.

During the time when internet started, it was basically used for information until businesses saw the possibilities that it can offer for their ventures.

And just like any other business, online business would benefit from online marketing.

Inside internet marketing, a sub classification can then be seen through the form of advertising. Commonly known in the internet world as webvertising, these are advertising mediums that cater specifically to online users, and has studied its market. There are indeed a lot of differences between the habits and behaviors of online and ‘real consumers’.

The primary benefit these businesses consider, compared to the standard media, is the low expense of dissemination of information to a wider or rather global market. This is a unique benefit since the channel and wide reach of these medium is usually expected to be higher in the conventional media. Media in internet is interactive. Customers and potential buyers can immediately give a reaction whether to decline or to buy. This benefit is particularly exciting, enticing, and gives the buyer and the seller the opportunity to learn more about each other’s wants. Through internet, email and faster media, interactive media, quick responses and actually conversations can be done. Conversations are actually considered a strong turning point in most transactions.

Management of data, analysis, and electronic data keeping, which are actually instantaneous also provide more information to sellers and company information that they can use to further better their product and service, learn more about their market and increase their potential to turn-around sales.

While it seems exciting for business to thrive on internet marketing, it is really a complex and diverse aspect of business. While for most people, advertising on the internet could mean placing a banner or put pop-ups and sending emails, an advertising and marketing campaign on the internet requires vast knowledge and professionalism in marketing.

There has to be a strategy where companies can promote their product properly aligned with the vision of the team. There should be wider options for mediums best suited for the image of the product and company. Sales targets have to be studied and be in consonance with the marketing plan through the internet. While it is a given fact that these advertisers are competing for a global market, internet marketing strategies should have a global approach also.

This entails research, studies, and an analysis on how to brand your item for a global market.

While it is true that ‘real’ or three dimensional marketing in the real world is more beneficial, what is important to note is that there are still a lot people around the world who are yet to experience being online. And these people are those that can be tapped in to future potential customers, if I may say.

Business Loan Get That High Investment Capital

    Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Is your business in need of a high capital for expansion? Maybe if you reinvest, you would be able to beat the competition. The business world is constantly evolving with many dramatic changes taking place. The best business idea yesterday become obsolete today, because between the space of yesterday and today a thousand and one business have already used the idea, making it old and archaic before the morning sun rises from the horizons of stiff competition. If you are involved in such competition pressure, you will understand what I mean.

In such an ever changing condition in the business world constant financial resources is ever needed to improve and expand the horizons of your business. How else can one this except through a business loan facility – this is an easy cash advance to meet the ever increasing demands in the business world. You do not have to wait until you can save up all the needed cash to reinvest or expand, it might be too late, your competition must have gone ahead of you by then, getting the best deals with all the clientele.

Are you a prospective business man with a brilliant business idea and need a business loan? Maybe you are like the Bill Gate of our time with a highly productive business plan that will fetch billions of dollars in the future. But, without implementation that wonderful, billion dollars producing business idea, no one will hear about it and no dime will be made. That is not the end of the brilliant idea, soon you will see your competition implementing the idea you neglected due to insufficient finance. There is something about a good idea, it does not stay with you forever, once it comes make use of it, but if it is abandoned without implementation, it develops wings and flies off to someone else in need of it. I have experienced this before, when an idea comes, you’ll believe it is restricted to you, if you are not fast about using it another will implement it without getting it from you. The point is your competition and you are almost always thinking alike, so it does not take much time for them to find out what you’ve discovered and once that happens they are ahead.

Apply for a business loan to get that high capital you need to give life to those fantastic, profit making ideas. If you have an asset to present as collateral, then the secured loan will be the best option, because with this you will be able to get a very high amount as the total package of the loan. In this case the creditor is secured; hence he/she is willing to part with a high amount of money. The creditor can always get back the money if the debt becomes bad. The business loan is the best way to get the needed capital.

Online College Degree Programs – Keys to Distance Learning Success

    Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Distance learning is an option for the student wishing to earn an advanced degree. However, distance learning is a challenge and will demand a lot on the part of the student. Here are some tips to help you determine if distance learning is right for you.

Proponents of online degrees stress the freedom to complete class work at a less hectic pace as a primary benefit compared to getting a traditional degree. This sounds good when you first hear it. But, what does it really mean?

Students in online degree programs don’t attend classes at a set time. If they want to read the course material at eight o’clock in the evening, it is up to their discretion. This type of freedom can be a burden if the student is not prepared for it.

Procrastination is the enemy of the distance learner. When assignments and papers are delayed until the last possible moment, the pressure builds. Some people work well under pressure, but to retain learned information this is not the way. A distance learning student needs to stay on top of assignments especially if they have more than one class or a full course load. Each lesson builds on the one before it. If you didn’t take the time to learn the one before you will get lost quickly. Trying to play catch up is no fun.

Distance learners are organized. With work, family, and other responsibilities outside of school, keeping track of assignments is the best way to stop things from falling through the cracks. As soon as courses are registered for, it is a good idea to print course syllabi and use a calendar of some sort to record testing dates and other deadlines. While most classes may allow you to work at your own pace, there are still some deadlines for turning work in. The more demanding the program is the more the issue of deadlines will come into play for you.

I know firsthand that when it comes to completing assignments, any distraction will do. Staying focused is the key to success as a distance learner. Family issues, work situations, and social commitments need to be scheduled around your education just as if you were attending a traditional institution. Boundaries are necessary to keep the distance learner on task. If time has been set aside from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to study for an exam, don’t turn on the television. That kind of distraction will keep you out of your seat and away from the computer.

Distance learning involves a lot of reading, whether you’re pursing an online business degree or some other type of degree. Since you are not in a classroom where an instructor is speaking, the information must be read. Reading from a computer screen bothers some students so they print out their course work and read it that way. That’s fine.

Students that tend to be more visual learners will encounter problems with distance learning. Depending on the school and the course of study, video courses may not be an option. Proceeding in a distance learning program will pose challenges that could prove too big to overcome.

Students in college learn to interact with others in a social setting. Distance learning offers no dorm life or other student activities that involves that type of interaction. Distance learners are comfortable getting their social interaction from family and friends outside of the school community. For young students straight out of high school this can be hard to get used to. Work and school may not leave enough time for fun activities if they are not part of an on-campus setting.

Can you work independently? Distance learners can comprehend what they need to do from the information given for an assignment. If there are any questions, they may consult the instructor or other classmates on the message boards. The point being, these students utilize various resources to find the answers that they need. A question doesn’t stop them in their tracks. They simply look for another avenue to search.

Computers are supposed to be user friendly but that can be an overstatement at times. Technologically challenged individuals may find navigating the Internet and various software applications on their computer to be a nuisance. Successful distance learning students don’t have to work for tech support, but they don’t fear computer technology either. The best way to learn about computers is through experiencetrial and error.

There’s no question that distance learning courses are not for everyone. The above points will help you determine if you have what it takes to give it a try. It does require a huge commitment of time and energy so weigh your decision carefully.
