Teacher Jobs: Which Do You Want ? Dance Teacher, English Teacher, Math Teacher Art Teacher or Computer Teacher?

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Dance teacher jobs.  Schools which have integrated into their curricula the teaching of arts most likely have dance as part of it.  Dancing can be taught in the primary by the class teachers and in secondary schools, by dance teachers.  Outside the government school system, a dance teacher can teach in private dance studios, or as self employed  dance teachers.  Ball room dancing which have become a vogue in the past years need dance teachers.

The advent and development of the dancesports spawned by ballroom dancing have given impetus to competitions and hence the influx of teachers and pupils who participate in those competitions.  Dancesports include Modern Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep, so that the teaching of these dances require knowledge not only of the dance but most of all the internationally agreed vocabularies, techniques, rhythms and tempos.  Because of these, the teacher must have to be properly trained and must have extensive experience in dancesports not only in the ballroom but in the competitions as well, to be a high caliber teacher.

Many kinds of dances can be learned by watching, and yet a far number of dances can only be learned with the help of a teacher, specifically, ballet, ballroom dances and dancesports, and folk dances.

Art teacher jobs.   Back in 1750, “art” was understood to denote the skill used to produce something of aesthetic value. It is also used to denote fine arts or creative arts, a skill used to express the creativity of the artist, or touch the audience sensibilities and also to communicate ideas, whether political, spiritual, even philosophical.  Or it may be for aesthetics, or generate a strong emotion, or the communication of an essential truth.

Art can be both tangible and audible.  They can be in the form of visual arts like painting, sculpture, and can be traditional and nowadays, digital; or, can be performing arts like dancing and singing.  However, in all of these, the artist’s intention is to communicate something either emanating from within the self, or to expose a certain truth or beauty that is hidden, consciously or unconsciously from the perception of the audience.

Because of this, art teachers must not only help develop in the student the knowledge and the skills, but must foster in the students a deep  understanding of the role of art, and guide students in responding to it.

Because many educators consider art as a necessity in the development of the students, art teaching jobs can be found in almost all schools, to include colleges and universities granting degrees in arts.  They can also be found in private studios nationwide.

English teacher jobs.  English teachers are needed abroad especially in countries like Japan, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Korea and other non-English speaking countries, especially in Asia.  Why is this so?  There at least two factors that contribute to the need.

First is tourism which is continually shifting to Asia although other parts of the world will continue to have tourists. Because tourism contributes $5.5 trillion to the world economy, every country desiring to cash in on it must be able to communicate with those tourists.

Second is the increasing world trade brought about by globalization.  Developed countries wanting to bring down costs of production outsource their production, and then export their  products to other countries. The need to be able to communicate with peoples of countries becomes imperative.

Because of the above factors, coupled by the increasing mobility of cash rich people and people wishing to cash in on the tourist and trade boom, in spite of recession, the need for English teachers especially in non-English speaking countries continue to grow.  So, people, whose native language is English, especially Americans, have plenty of opportunities of landing teaching jobs in English. Such jobs abound and one can easily spot them by surfing the internet.

Math teacher jobs.  Mathematics is an essential tool in many fields of study and work such as natural science, engineering, medicine, economics, and psychology.  Applied mathematics which is the application of mathematical knowledge to other fields in many cases has led to the development of new disciplines. In everyday life, no one can dispense of mathematics.  It is used in almost anything almost everywhere.  Because of this, mathematics is a must in all curricula from preschool to doctoral degrees.

Jobs for math teachers abound because of the deep shortage of teachers in the field that can be attributed to two convergent factors: the increase of the number of student enrolments and the attrition in the teaching force.  Attrition of math teachers stems from two factors:  retirement of old teachers and the teacher pursuing other jobs due perhaps to job dissatisfaction brought about by the nature of work as a teacher and also better opportunities in more lucrative fields like business.  Coupled with the fact that the supply of math teachers is to a great degree not sufficient to cover the existing need for new teachers, job positions for math teachers virtually abounds.

State education departments, and district school websites will provide much information on the need for math teachers in those states.

Computer teacher jobs.   According to US Department of Labor projections, one in four jobs in 2016 involves computer science.  Jobs for CompSc and IT graduates are projected to increase from 2006 to 2016 by over 21% while those for network and computer systems administrators by 27%, not to mention the increase of positions requiring skills in computers.  Contrasted with the continuing decrease in the trend for computer related degrees, which some schools reported to be in the area of 50%, it will be logical to expect that the time will soon come that there will be more available jobs for computer science graduates, with probably no takers.

Student Financial Aid: Finding Money To Pay For College

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Many are eager to study at a college or university, yet lack the necessary financial resources to do so. Many talents, both young and old, are wasted by not earning a college degree since they can’t afford to be enrolled in a decent institution.

To address this need, many government and non-government organizations are pooling resources to provide financial aid to students who wish to finish their college degree. This comes in the form of loans, education grants, and so on. Colleges and universities also offer financial aid for students who wish to finish college education. These come in the form of loans, tuition fee discounts, scholarship grants, and so on.

Finding money to pay for college is possible, if you know where to look. Here are some tips on how to get the financial resources you need to get you started:

Financial Aid in Colleges and Universities

You might want to consider applying for financial aid in the college of your choice, before you apply for financial assistance from the government. Aside from being complicated, government grants are very tedious – especially the paper work.

College and university financial aid come in different forms:

• Student loan programs, like scholarships and financial grants

• Student assistant programs that provides discounted tuition fees by rendering service to the school

• Scholarships, loans, and so on

Note, that not all students are accepted for these kinds of financial aid. You have to pass certain requirements and standards set by the school to get in; and you need to exert extra effort to maintain it.

Some institutions require a minimum average grade for the student to continue to be provided with the financial aid programs they offer. For student assistants, you must have above satisfactory evaluation on your rendered services, as well as the required number of hours for it.

So before you apply to a college or university, you might need to inquire on what available opportunities they have to ease your financial problems, as well as the necessary requirements for it.

Government Financial Aids

Another form of student financial aid comes from the government itself. In order to address the need for educated individuals that serve in the nation’s workforce, the government is dishing out millions of dollars to provide education to those who need it.

One such aid comes from the FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This agency provides financial aid for students or parents who wish to start, continue, and finish their education. There are two ways to apply: walk-in, or online.

Before you apply for FAFSA, you first need certain documents to simplify the process of filing the application. The important documents needed are:

• Social Security Number

• Driver’s License

• ITR (Income Tax Returns)

• Bank Statements

• Investment Records

There are two ways to fill out the documents necessary for FAFSA, either you or your parents can file for the financial aid. If you wish to file it online, you may need to gather specific information about your parents, and accurate financial info. Remember, the more accurate the information you put in, the larger the possibility that you will be granted financial aid.

As with all government-type financial aid, the process is quite long and future follow-ups tend to be somewhat tedious. If you want to look for a financial aid program, you can choose either institutional, government, or a combination of the two – the choice for your future education is all yours.
